Obamacare

Can someone please explain to me why people are so against healthcare reform? I am annoyed by all the requests on Facebook to have me fight against healthcare reform.

USA healthcare may be the worst thing about our country! (It's either that or the fact that we don't have public transportation and destroy the environment with automobiles) It needs to be fixed. It should be a priority. Even some steps in the wrong direction will be better than stagnation (and consequent price inflation).

It is Wrong how expensive it is to buy simple health needs. The prescription medication companies are secretly making a killing of a profit. Like 500 percent profits on something that is a life or death issue--something that people have to buy or they could die. In India, that's against the law. And in India, I just bought a year's worth of prescription medicine for $3.

If you travel at all you will be astonished at the price differences. People in other countries worry about visiting ours because of the prohibitive costs in the case they needed some kind of care on a visit.

People are fighting against this unknowing that it is the health insurance companies that are feeding them misinformation.

They are fighting against healthcare reform because they have never had a personal problem with it. What they don't know is that at anytime, they could be diagnosed with a chronic illness and face bankruptcy because of the high costs. Or that they could lose their job, lose their health plan concurrently, and then find they are unable to even pay for a doctor's visit.

It could happen to anyone, but as long as they have their health insurance, they think they are safe. It is a false sense of security. What is a truly secure back up plan, and what I plan to do annually at this rate, is you can always travel to another country and take advantage of their cheap health care if you really needed something.

I imagine it is the same in India. People may be saying, "Education is a right!" But the private schools don't want to lose their profits and so they would put up an enormous amount of resistance if India tried to make public school a universal right.

It seems that many disagree but they don't have solutions that they are trying to implement. They are just "anti." Come up with a solution and fight to get it passed like Obama has tried to get his passed instead of just saying "No!"

Just my opinion.

THANK YOU!!! I am so frustrated with this whole healthcare debate. I feel like Pres Obama cut so much out of his original plan in order to compromise and yet people are still refusing to work with him. SOMETHING needs to be tried instead of giving up and "starting over" again and again and again. Its ridiculous.

People don't want their taxes to go up. Look at social security and how broken that is. My parents have to take a loan out this year to pay their taxes. Obamacare is just another bureaucratic plan that is going to cost the middle class, pay off corrupt leaders and buy the votes of the lower class.
I don't want the government involved in health, why? Because they mess everything up. They're making it more profitable to sit on you butt and doing nothing than work. The government pays people to do nothing with the hard earned money of the middle class.
I also don't want my hard earned money paying for illegal immigrant's health plans or for abortions. One of the principals that I think made America great was pulling yourself up by your bootstraps.
Government only makes things worse. Churches and charities should be handling taking care of people. But no one's concerned about helping their neighbor now days, because they expect the government to do it for them.
Besides, why does it take hundreds of pages for a healthcare plan? Because it's got a gazillion pork barreling projects.
Also, Obamacare drives me crazy, because when Americans protest against it, he calls them radicals.
My plan: tort reform. Healthcare cost so much, because we're a suing people. Doctor's have to pay excruciating high insurances just to practice...just ask Doctor Rees.

Thanks for the comments. I appreciate your feedback.

Actually I also feel that the government runs things inefficiently and I want them to stay out of my business as much as possible. And they will not do a perfect job of running this.

But take the example of public schools. Most of us attended public schools. Were they perfect?far from it. Yet if there were no public schools many us children would not be able toattend. That would be wrong wouldn't it? And if u don't like the public system u could always choose a private school.

This is how I envision healthcare to work. Tort reform is an important part of this. But would that prevent a health insurance company from kicking someone off who has HIV or cancer? Remember the companies are out to make a profit. There is no profit in cancer. Would tort reform solve the exorbitant prices of medication? Currently there is no cap on the profits they can make. My grandma is forced to pay $75 pEr PILL I bet the pull cost.50.

I guess the point is I am not for obamacare totally out of the goodness of my heart but bc American healthcare is the most expensive in the world and in this is done right the way other governments have done it it should save money...

I think today is a great day! We are moving forward rather than rehashing this over and over and still not making changes. I am sure that this plan is far from perfect, but it is a start in the right direction. I really like your comparison with public schools.

Presidents from both parties have worked on Healthcare reform: Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Clinton and now Obama. I am just happy that we are doing more than just talking about it now.

I work in healthcare. Pills cost 75 dollars because it costs money to pay people to study, develop, run studies for safety and effectiveness. Yes, the actual products in the pill may only be worth about 50 cents, but the value is far more.

I just hope that by the time I am 80 I still have some choices that the government hasn't already assumed responsibility for.

People are still very limited when they have their health insurance today. They can't go out of network, they can't buy anything that their doctor doesn't write them a prescription for, and costs are such that you must have health insurance if you want health care.

In better systems than ours that also happen to be universal health care, you can visit whatever doctor you want, whenever you want, with no wait. Medication is cheaper and more accessible. There is much more freedom than our current system.

And I understand there are R&D costs, but why don't the costs ever come down? Why aren't there knock off brands that cost much less? Why are they so much cheaper in other countries? Other countries are developing pills too. I don't want to fight to pay $75 when in India I can pay .50.
